In late June 2024, the Yale Astro Space Science Experience (YASSE) brought 6th to 8th graders from the New Haven area together for a dynamic 5-day exploration of astronomy, aeronautics, and space science at the Leitner Family Observatory and Planetarium. Designed for curious and motivated students, the program offered an immersive introduction to the wonders of the universe.
Over the course of the program, participants launched rockets, built spacecraft models, and explored the night sky through powerful telescopes. These hands-on activities brought science and engineering to life, making YASSE not just an educational experience, but a memorable journey to the stars.
The first year was a pilot program, and we are hoping to run YASSE again in the summer of 2026. Please see the YASSE website for updates and more information.
